Sleeping In Public

When i find a song that I like, I listen to it over and over again. I used to do this in solitude. Now my children are victims of my serial listening. They have memorized songs by countless musicians, I'm sure. Sometimes, Mahalia looks at me just so and I recognize her look. Sometimes I'm alarmed by her sass. And then I realize it's a little me looking at me. Parenting is a conundrum. It's been a minute since I sat down and wrote something. I quit FaceBook. It was leaving me feeling isolated and irritated. I'm sure it's social media and not the fact that I moved my family 2000 miles away from our home without really knowing anyone. I joined a choir. We sing mainly great symphonic works in concert. We sang Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms last week with the Colorado Symphony. The people in the choir are mainly old. The people in the choir are mainly strange. Shane brought the kids. Desmond was hardcore asleep when I met up with them at intermission. Shane carried the lanky little dude all the way to the car. Desmond opened his eyes, "that symphony concert felt like 2 minutes long!" I need a dose of that medicine--whenyoutrustsomeonesomuchyousleepthathardinpublic medicine. We're on the brink of buying this house: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3358-N-Race-St-Denver-CO-80205/13305142_zpid/ When we do, you need to come visit. I hope with my heart that it becomes a home filled with kids, music, food, puppies and other deliciousness. Last week I went to a gig of Shane's. He plays a bunch at this place called Dazzle Supper Club. He introduced me to his drummer as, "the whole reason I met you!" aka the teacher who told Shane to go to Eastman where we met. I spent a bunch of time after that thinking about all the little paths along the way in life and the magic of the one path I chose. After the Desmond sleeping thru the concert incident he asked me, "Mom, why does time feel so much faster when you're asleep?" It's a decent question! I don't know why but it sure reminds me to stay awake, really awake, and present almost every moment I can. Here's that song I really like. https://youtu.be/J0p3AiVkWzU
